Why do we torture ourselves? Why do we voluntarily choose to go through the process of trying to conceive, whether it’s just a roll in the hay or having to find a donor and be artificially inseminated? Why do we go through nine months of one symptom or another (though usually multiple symptoms) only to end it with a tedious and painful multiple hour ordeal, which could result in surgery? Why do we choose to have sleepless nights, disgusting diapers, sore nipples, more laundry and dishes, less freedom and money, and noisy babies? Why do we put up with the tantrums, angst, worry, and possible heartbreak? Why do some of us choose to do it all over again, possibly more than once? Oh yeah – for the cuteness of the babies, the hugs of the children, the vicarious lives, the proud accomplishments, and the joy of grandchildren – when you can send them home again ;-p.
